SEND Provision

Music provision for children and young people with additional needs, including additional learning needs, are offered in two separate strands – Learning about Music and Learning through Music.

All children should have access to an inclusive, broad and balanced music curriculum regardless of any additional needs. Music is for all and provides  the opportunity for children and young people to communicate, express themselves and explore their creativity through a range of different musical experiences.

HMS can provide skilled music teachers and practitioners with special school’s experience to work alongside teachers and support staff to engage classes in an accessible, meaningful curriculum.

Learning through Music is a holistic approach to music provision which uses music as a vehicle for learning. Projects and interventions focus on life skills including making connections both with adults and peers, building relationships through improved social interaction and communication skills, developing a greater sense of self identity and self-worth, nurturing a readiness to learn, empowering confidence and supporting each individual’s wellbeing. Musical games, songs, activities and experiences are devised and planned in response to the needs of the children and young people involved.
