School-Based Ensembles

Are you thinking about starting a school choir, orchestra, rock band, or samba group? Schools are able to use the standard HMS hourly rate to bring in expertise for ensemble tuition and direction.  There are many types of groups that you could start, but most common are choirs, orchestras, and instrument-specific ensembles such as a flute choir, string ensemble, or percussion group.

Ensembles can be for anyone who is passionate about playing and performing music with others.  Our ensembles cater brilliantly for mixed ability, so whether a young person has only been playing for a few weeks or for several years, there will be fantastic opportunities to take part in a group.

Our school-based ensembles rehearse weekly during school time, or in some cases after school.  We will be able to provide repertoire for your group to play, at no extra cost.  Additionally, you can liaise with your HMS teacher about performances throughout the year, which they are always keen to support!

We would recommend 30 minutes for a school-based ensemble.  For larger ensembles within a secondary school, you might want to consider up to a full hour.

Using funding from Arts Council England, Hampshire Music Service can heavily subsidise the cost of our school-based ensemble provision for you.  We charge £51.50 per hour, across all 39 weeks of the academic year. Schools are refunded for missed lessons due to staff absence.
